Penrith and Guiseley Train Stations | Ground Investigation
We supported Vetrix in the delivery of improvement works at Penrith and Guiseley train stations, contributing to wider rail infrastructure enhancement programmes aimed at improving passenger experience, accessibility, and operational performance.
Both stations form important parts of their regional rail networks. Penrith serving the West Coast Main Line and Guiseley acting as a key commuter station within West Yorkshire.
We supported Vetrix across with the Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigation.
Each location presented distinct challenges. At Penrith, a historic, Grade II-listed station, works needed to carefully balance heritage constraints with modernisation requirements. The station is currently undergoing a programme of upgrades, including refurbishment of buildings, improved passenger facilities, and new commercial uses, as part of wider investment in the town’s transport infrastructure.
At Guiseley, the focus was on improving capacity and accessibility. Planned upgrades include platform extensions to accommodate longer trains and the introduction of step-free access via new footbridges and lifts, supporting increased passenger demand and inclusive travel.
Working within live rail environments added further complexity, requiring careful coordination and phasing to minimise disruption to services.
These projects demonstrate the successful delivery of phased infrastructure improvements within complex, live transport environments, balancing heritage, technical, and operational requirements to create lasting benefits for passengers and communities.
