Ashton Town Centre – Project Management

We provided a traditional Project Management Service to Tameside Council to procure and manage a design team for the regeneration of Ashton Town Centre regeneration programme including investment secured from the Levelling Up Fund, supporting the delivery of Tameside’s Inclusive Growth Strategy. 

A detailed and robust programme of work, including a thorough consultation strategy and a simplified, fast-track design sign-off procedure allowed the project to swiftly progress on the project, ensuring to coordination the submissions of LUF monitoring returns to DLUHC as required. 

 The redevelopment of Ashton’s Market Square and the outdoor market is phase one of a wilder public realm strategy covering the whole of Ashton’s town centre. The market is currently made up of 104 fixed market stalls and eight kiosk facilities. We have been working with Tameside council for several years, it is a beautiful town and these changes for the market quarter will become a catalyst for further regeneration. 

 Once a leading destination for both local and out-of-town shoppers Ashton Town Centre has been identified as being no longer fit for purpose, with many shop closures and footfall has continued to decline. 

We engaged with residents, market traders and stakeholders for   more   than   a   year   through   several engagements workshops and events, and provided support throughout the delivery of this project to business and residents’ needs, queries and issues 

An impressive new canopy will provide a designated undercover area to include flexible, durable market stalls and kiosks. The canopy and kiosks will frame views of the listed Town Hall and Market Hall buildings and improve walking routes through the square in all directions.  A large space in front of the Town Hall will be reserved for events, with a series of connecting smaller spaces creating places for visitors to socialise and relax. 

These changes using levelling up monies are essential to unlocking Ashton’s potential for regeneration. This will encourage existing market users to continue to use and make the most of the space.
