Oldham, October 22, 2024 — The LK Group has proudly lent its assistance to Northern Roots, the ambitious project set to become the UK’s largest urban farm. The team recently provided ground investigation and land remediation services in support of this project including soil sampling, hand dug pits, invasive species removal, and enabling works prior to volunteering their time to construct a new compound area for the eco-park, marking an important step in the development of this 160-acre green space in the heart of Oldham.
Northern Roots aims to transform the expansive area into a vibrant hub for learning, leisure, and sustainable agriculture, benefiting the local community and environment. By volunteering their time and skills, The LK Group’s team contributed to the early stages of this transformation, which is expected to unfold over the next five to ten years.
It was inspiring to see our team roll up their sleeves and get involved in such a meaningful project. Northern Roots has a vision to create a unique destination that will boost health, well-being, and livelihoods, and we’re thrilled to play a small part in making that vision a reality.
The eco-park project is designed to serve as a model for urban regeneration and sustainability, providing opportunities for education, community engagement, and environmental management. With plans to include areas for growing food, wildlife conservation, and recreational activities, Northern Roots is set to become a thriving space for residents and visitors alike.
A special thanks goes out to Willmott Dixon, whose collaboration also played a vital role in the progress of this project. Together we are helping lay the foundations for what promises to be a landmark destination in Oldham.
As Northern Roots continues to evolve, The LK Group looks forward to watching the transformation of this urban farm over the coming years, helping to create a space where the community can connect with nature and learn more about sustainable living.
