Eden Project | Ground Investigation
The LK Group was commissioned by The Eden Project to undertake a comprehensive ground investigation across the proposed Eden Project Morecambe site to allow WSP with their design.
The scope includes borehole drilling, trial pits, in-situ testing, groundwater monitoring, and geotechnical laboratory testing. The findings will help assess ground conditions, soil composition, and potential environmental constraints to support the design of foundations and drainage systems.
Our Solution
Working closely with WSP and the wider design team, The LK Group mobilised specialist drilling rigs and geotechnical engineers to deliver a detailed and efficient site investigation programme. Using advanced sampling and monitoring techniques, the team gathered accurate subsurface data to characterise the site and provide technical recommendations.
Benefits
The ground investigation will deliver critical insights into the site’s geotechnical and environmental conditions, allowing WSP and the design team to make informed, evidence-based decisions. The data helps to reduce technical risks, optimise design efficiency, and support regulatory approvals — paving the way for successful delivery of this transformative development for Morecambe and the wider region.
Federico Mazzetti, Technical Director at WSP, added:
“This site investigation is a key milestone for Eden Project Morecambe. The data provided by The LK Group will allow WSP to refine the design with confidence, helping to deliver a project that creates lasting value for the local community and environment.”
Eden Project Morecambe is being delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, and Lancaster University, with completion expected in late 2028.
