Remediation Consultancy – Ground Investigation

The LK Group was asked to complete a Phase 2 Site Investigation (SI) to infill the scope gap with historical SI for a mixed-use development at a former gasworks production site.

The Project 

The site had been previously investigated by others and our works were undertaken for swift assessment, to support the updated planning application. The reporting also provided for a Remediation Strategy and Geotechnical Preliminary Design Recommendations for piled foundations and new canal walls. 

THE SOLUTION

The SI was on a rapid turnaround, to meet the planning submission deadline, and completed to industry standards, including deep shell and auger and window sample boreholes, mechanically excavated trial pits, soil and water sampling, and subsequent gas and vapour monitoring. We updated the Conceptual Site Model and assessed the geoenvironmental risks as “high”. 

THE BENEFIT 

Our assessment enabled the zoning of earthworks and foundation design. We recommended remediation measures to allow for the tanking of basements and gas/vapour environmental protective measures for ground formation level buildings, and we delivered the planning documents on time. We are overseeing an ongoing monitoring programme throughout the enabling and remedial works, providing for the Verification Report of the below-ground works and Close-Out Report of the incorporated environmental protection measures included within the construction.
