Meet Charlie…

Jan 20, 2025 General

Charlie our geo-environmental engineer for the past year and a half has played a key role within our ground investigation team and has enjoyed part taking in a dynamic and rewarding role that blends office-based tasks with hands-on site work.

“Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, making my job both engaging and fulfilling.”

Health and safety are at the forefront of everything we do at LK. Charlie’s day often begins with conducting risk assessments to ensure that all site activities are carried out safely and in compliance with regulations. Supervision of site investigation work is another critical part of his role. Whether it’s overseeing drilling operations, window sampling, or supervising trial pits, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely is a priority.

According to Charlie one of the most interesting aspects of his role involves logging and sampling rock and soil materials. This task requires precision and attention to detail, as the data collected is crucial for our environmental assessments and recommendations. Back in the office, he spends time liaising with clients, updating them on project progress, and addressing any concerns they might have.

One of the most rewarding projects Charlie has worked on consisted of a two-week ground investigation in Bolton. This particular project was for an upcoming residential development and involved a variety of tasks, including window sampling, rotary boreholes, and trial pitting for soakaway testing.

“The complexity of the site made the work challenging but highly satisfying. Completing the project felt like a significant achievement, knowing that our work will help shape a new community.”

We asked Charlie what he enjoys most about working for The LK which he shared with us,

“One of the things I enjoy most about working at LK is the balance between office work and fieldwork. The variety keeps the job interesting and ensures that no two days are the same. It’s rare to have a boring day at work, which is something I truly appreciate. The team culture at LK is fantastic. Everyone is approachable and willing to help, whether it’s offering advice or pointing you in the direction of the right person who can assist. The collaborative environment makes it easy to learn and grow within the company.”

We always like to ask our engineers what advice would you give for aspiring Geo-environmental engineers, for Charlie he expressed,

“If you’re aspiring to enter this field, my advice is to always indulge your curiosity. If something piques your interest, no matter how small, ask questions and seek out more information. The field of geo-environmental engineering is broad and ever-evolving, and there’s always something new to learn. At LK, you’ll find that curiosity is not just welcomed—it’s encouraged.”
